Used to be, but now, unfortunately no. Issues like abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research are far too polarizing and don't allow for much moderation in the party...although it would help the party tremendously.
The world could fall apart around us, the economy could go to ****, the environment will suffer, but as long as a man can't marry another man...conservatives will be able to sleep at night.

Generally there are two forms of Democrats. Liberal and nutcases. Any thinking D who doesn't toe the party line gets tossed.
Just look what happened to their 2000 VP candidate, Joe Lieberman.

There are a whole spectrum of Democrats, just like there is a whole spectrum of Republicans. However, the leaders in the Democratic party are often to the left of most issues and the leaders of the Republican party are often to the right of most issues.

The Democrats, by definition, comprise may different interests since their goals are to provide for all rather than the few. It is a double-edged sword for them and probably always will be. From one election to the next, it is their leadership that sets the platform. That still doesn't represent the party at large. Far from consensus, the best they can usually count on is acquiescence.

Yes , and the liberals are chasing the conservatives out, which means the Dem. will never be able to win, I'm a liberal who feels there has got to be room for everyone in the party.

Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, Republican, these are all just labels. There are too many people who just take sides with the group they believe they are a part of. I call it political gang-banging, animosity based only on association.

The differenct between the Liberal and the Conservative is that when there is a hungry alligator in their neighborhood:
The Liberal will feed it in hopes of being the last to be eaten.
The Conservative will kill it so not to be eaten.
Now that makes me wonder about how secure my neighborhood is. How secure is your heighborhood?

Yes there are factions within the party, just as there are between the repuglicans. Stupid and way stupid, and then there are the ultra stupid, I think the middle class repuglicans are the dumbest that there is.
