My mom swears that Latins do things almost just like Africans, especially the music and the food. I think it's probably because a lot of Latin countries are in tropical regions, like West African countries. Is Latin culture influenced by Africa? Did the influence get there through slavery?

Yes, Latino culture has a strong African influence. Most of these are West-African for the simple reason that most slaves came from West-Africa.
The Latin culture is what is called a syncretic (mix) culture, with strong European and African elements and also some Native American, Asian and other features.
The African elements were obviously introduced with slavery and it extends to all aspects of life, language, music (the drumming and the rhythm), religion (santería, voodoo and candomblé, that worship African gods like Shango), cooking (in Brazil they use the same red palm oil as in Africa), etc.
So your mom is right. Is she African?
