should I get a connemara pony (someone offered one to me) or should I look for a big horse?

I'm 17 and I'm an experienced rider (8 years of experience) and I take a riding lesson at least once a week.

The pony is 148 cm, the biggest size for a pony, it's almost a horse

What do you want? Ponies have a lot of good traits they are more curious and willing connemaras tend to be extremely athletic and trainable. Will he do everything you need for a while? he sounds big enough you should look fine on him. If the price is right consider the pony you need now rather than the horse who may not do it all. If you advance beyond him you can send him on to "raise" his next young rider. Good luck

Ride the Connemara. See how it fits you. See how you communicate with each other. Lease it for 2 - 4 weeks and take some lessons on it. Then decide.

With out knowing more about your height, weight, ability, and expectations, it's hard to know what to recommend.

A good pony is worth it weight in gold in my book.

I prefer bigger horses because of my height and my love of jumping. If you plan on showing you need to fit the horse you are riding. Sounds like the connemara pony is well trained but does it fit you and your needs? I have owned quarter horses, dutch warmbloods, trakners, thoroughbreds and the list goes on. It always depended on the individual horses and their talents that made the difference. However I have fallen truly in love with the Friesian breed. They are remarkably beautiful and well tempered. They are amazing and so is the Friesian sport horse. That would be my recommendation.

Well depend on what you want to do with it, judst pleasure? Western or english? Try out some more horses and ponies and if that ponie is the one you like best then get it.

Connemaras are known for being headstrong, but if you're experienced that shouldn't be a problem.

The most important information that you left out was, how tall are you? Are your feet going to be below his elbows? If so you're probably better off looking for a bigger horse.

A connomara pony is a good choice...^_^

A bigger horse will of course, give you a good ride, but you gotta have some intimate bonding wit your horse too eh??

A connemara pony is a frendlier and more cuter horse, which'll make you and him/her BEST FRENDS!!

Depends on what riding experience your looking for, kinda like buying a car or a bike. You want a bumpy ride get the pony, you want a smoother ride, get the horse.

I think the older one would be better for you..but a baby horse is not called a pony..a pony and a horse are two differant things. I am a horse trainer.

if you like the pony I would take it.. if you plan on getting very competative you might want a bigger horse. but really there is nothing wrong wrong with having a smaller one for starters or pleasure...

I have a 11 hand donkey and I ride her...I am an adult and used to show Arabs which are also smaller... it depends on what you want to do with the horse really..

connemara pony's are more cute, but it would probably suit you having a bigger horse. (i know i dont know you but if you're 17 then iwould think you should get a bigger horse.)
