I am going to Europe in November. With all of these web blogs, instant messaging and myspacy things out there I figured there is probably a better way to stay in touch than to email bulk messages to my friends back home...

What do you think?

Hey Marcus, check out www.travelpod.com, it's a travel blog site.

To be fair, I am a little biased, I am the founder, but I use it myself to do what your asking about... I just got back from 6 months in South America and used TravelPod.

Check out my travel blog if you want to see what TravelPod is like.

If TravelPod doesn't do it for you, there are other travel blog sites out there that are similar, just search for "travel blog" on Google or Yahoo and you'll find several other sites.

Enjoy your trip!

My family & friends love my Yahoo! 360 page (and so do I)! It is easy to create, and simple to work on. Whenever I travel to Europe, the whole world knows what I've done day-by-day. I try to post pics with every entry, that way the folks back home can live vicariously through me! You can post a picture with each blog entry, and you can create photo albums, too. It's always nice to document my travels while they're fresh in my mind...And I don't have to worry about the time difference!
Be sure you create it well before you go. That way you can build a list of friends who can view it, rather than leaving your page open to the public (and potentially bad-guys).

I had friends that set up a travel blog for their friends, where they could post their travels and pictures.

BUt really, when travelling, when are you going to find time to send emails or work on a blog? WEb cafes cost money and take up time. I prefer to give everyone the downlow when I get home and not waste my precious travel time behind a computer.

Good old Y! Groups does the trick for me.

Just start a group at http://groups.yahoo.com. Add your friends to the group and viola you are all set for your trip.

You could also blog on http://360.yahoo.com and hope that your friends read your blog on 360 :-)
