If every weekend, day off work, and vacation day you took were a media event, you would also appear on constant vacation.

Vacation? Listen to yourself. How do you take a vacation if you are the president while we are at war? I doubt President Bush's vacation is something you could comprehend. CEO's and doctors are always called and have to provide counsel when they have down time. Even on his "vacation" he still has briefings, meetings, legislation to read over, diplomats to entertain, functions to attend. Does that sound like a vacation? Surely the man can get away from the public eye for a minute to relieve some stress. You need to watch less of the news and more of life and reality. In fact check the newspaper while the President is on vacation and see what news he is making.

Well, first off, his "vacation" is not exactly a vacation per se. Yes, he gets to leave Washington D.C., and the White House, but it's not exactly like he's getting "time off" - it's not like he can leave the office behind, ditch the cell phone, etc.
Even while he's off in Crawford, Texas, or Camp David, or up at his parents place in Maine - he's never really on vacation. He receives his daily security briefing, he probably has contact, several times a day, with his senior staff - and some of his staff will be with him wherever he goes. He still probably has to make important decisions while he's on vacation. Plus, if he really needs to be - he can be back in D.C. in a matter of hours.
Don't forget, he had the video conference with Tony Blair shortly before the U.K. busted that terrorist cell that was going to blow up the planes - and he did that from Crawford - while he was on vacation. After the group was taken down, the White House was able to reveal that part of that teleconference was talking about the information they had on the terrorist group.
How many times have you teleconfereced with your co-workers or business peers while you've been on vacation?
So, technically, yes, he does get more "vacation" than the average working man- but look at it this way - he gets less vacation than a public school teacher who gets 2 weeks at Christmas, usually a week for Spring Break, and then 2 months in the summer. That's a lot more than the 5 weeks he takes.
It really is kind of a cheap shot question.

I think that a president should try to make as many leisurely visits to as many foreign countries as possible. It always seemed to me like it would be a lot easier to discuss foreign relations in a less stressful scenario. Imagine Bush and Hussein playing a game of golf discussing how to avoid conflict, to bad Bush's own ignorance and obvious fear of Saddam could never allow for such an exchange. Although I will admit Saddam probably isn't one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

Well look what all you say when he is in the White House? I'd figure you would be happy. Maybe he is HAPPIER in Texas, likes the weather their better. For the record unlike MOST he takes "working" vactions. As in he is still on the job when at his ranch. Also if Congress can take all those vactions why shouldn't the President be allowed to? After all how much can he do without Congress?

Well lets see.. we haven't had a terror attack in 5 years, the economy is doing great, we are winning the war in Iraq, ...
I think the man deserves a get away here & there! Hell I know I wouldn't want his job.
Besides, Bush is a country man, a hick/redneck like us! He likes the country air, fishing & hunting & chillin in the peace & quiet!
He probably can't stand to be in D.C. City's suck! loud, crowded, stinky & only pigeons to hunt & the fishing is $hitty!
It's not like the government don't know where to find him or how to reach him!
God Bless!

I am not a big Bush fan but I think that he is telecommuting. I think that the president never gets time off really.

I will say this flat out, he does not care about his country. He still has the aftermath of katrina and half of lebanon is gone. And he feels to lower his vacation "one week". Poor guy. I would never ever in my life feel sorry for him!

Incompetence...'true' incompetence....is hard work and very tiring. It takes more effort sometimes to do a bad job, than it does to do a good job. Hence the need for more vacation time.
