John is a good man (now that he is laying in the box dead). He will be missed by many (but not by me). His family and friends are here today to remember him (and to be sure he is finally dead) We grieve not his death, because we know he is going to a better place (or straight to hell, if there is any justice), but the fact that he is no longer with us, (and the SOB will never have to bay back the money he owes us).

Strangely enough, a question very similar to this one came up between my friend and I regarding her mother.
My personal thoughts are - if you were unliked by many, myself included, why lie? I would lay it all out on the table and hope that you were looking down to find out how we all REALLY felt about you.
I would never tell you straight to your face while you were alive, but might express my hatred towards you in action. However, once you are dead, the truth needs to come out. If you are that hated, then the people who hated you need that closure of finally getting it all of their chests. What does it matter what is said anyway? You're no longer with us, right?

before i did your eulogy, id would find out what kind of person you were, find out you likes and dislikes were and what your friends thought about you, and ask you family, i would get to know you so i would know what to say.

i would tell what I knew of you that was any good to anyone and try to be respectful of your mom and dad and your children and mate . then I would tell you off later when we were alone.
