Yes, it is.
There will be two two-hour movies to finish up Milch's story arc.
This article is a good summary:

According to this writeup, the show - at $5M per episode - was too expensive, and Milch understood that.

And this is another excellent description of the show's ending.

Most unfortunately - yes! However they have written two 2hr eps to be shot in Spring next year which means they'll probably be airing on HBO around Summer/Fall.
*DEADWOOD -- as of right now it appears as if we will create two
Deadwood movies. Production will probably commence spring/summer of
07. The films will be made for HBO movies to be aired on the channel.
The cast have been made offers, however no deals have been made
because most of us are hesitant to commit without some sort of time
schedule. Yes, I wrote the episode "A Constant Throb." To to be
entirely honest, like all our scripts, it was a group effort.
Everyone on the writing staff plus the interns all write on every
episode. Then everything is reworked by the Maestro, David Milch.
When your name is on the script, you sort of shepherd the whole
process and have a larger writing load than everyone else*

My advice is to hire out Carnivale or watch The Sopranos (both of which I will be doing). They are both excellent HBO shows also and may help to fill he gap...

I have just started seeing this show with Season 1. Don't have HBO and am thoroughly enjoying it. Quite raw.

I heard it is , but somehow I doubt it...
Just like the Sopranos, they will take a Hiatus for a year or so and come back.
