why do people slag off simon cowell when he's just honest about people and is talking from experience (I personally think hes funny)?

dont you think its about time they placed an age limit for entrants...........ie 18-35 rather than letting loadsa people come in, and letting some through to the 2nd round out of sympathy cos theyre too old for the music industry but they were sweet or nice?

Simon is pure box office,he's very entertaining. I find his one-liners very funny. People slate him for being Mr. Nasty but all he is doing is being refreshingly honest. If he says someone is sh!t it is because they usually ARE sh!t. Likewise though, if he says someone is good it is because they HAVE talent. He's a very good judge of artist. As he said in the preview show;

" There are some contestants who think they have more talent than they actually do, and someone has to give these people a reality check. Usually that person is me. "

He was referring to that bighead Geordie bloke 'piano key Tony' in the last series. His ding-dong with him was superb. Simon's comic timing was spot on!

I don't think they should place an age limit on people. I'm a youngster but I do think there is a youth bias on popular television. By having an older category, they give talented people like Andy the soul singer, or Journey South, the chances which may before have passed them by. If an artist is talented, they deserve a chance to shine regardless of their age.

Totally agree - Simon is refreshnenly honest, maybe he says some hard & harsh comments here and there but at least he says it to their face and isn't two faced and he doesn't falsely build up their hopes. I too find him funny - he is a realist and successful business man so he knows what he is talking about ,some of it is showmanship but if everyone on the panel sat on the fence and was pleasant to all the contestants it would make v.dull tv. You need some controversy.

As for the age limit, I was thinking the same thing but I can only guess they allow everyone in for auditions is so they do not get accused of being shallow for picking "younger" members of society and are seen to be discriminating on age grounds. It also makes the programme widely appeal to all ages and often gives them many funny footage.

I agree. All these old people are hardly going to take the music scene by storm even if they were fantastic singers. Simon cowell has a reputation to keep when judging the X factor and will probably continue to be the way he is. Why change a winning formula? Let's face it, the first rounds are always the best as the nutter and delusionists are always the biggest laugh.

I think Cowell, while humorous, is simply playing apart. In turn the viewing audience is playing their part by "hating" him.

As far as the age limit. For the most part their is an unwritten age limit.Notice all the winners are within that bracket. They let a wide variety try to give it an everyman feel. They then keep some of the older and/or less talented people for a couple of reasons.

Comic relief and also, once again, the everyman feel. It can be funny watching someone not realize they have little talent. It can bring up feelings of connection to see poor, delusional, person on stage because for one moment you get to see yourself belting out a tune.

I know some of those poor souls on X Factor are living in la la land, but Simon doesn't need to be that cruel really does he, still I suppose if your going to have to tell them, do it the hard way or no way at all, it just makes me feel so sorry for them, bless em, I would think the age limits are fine, I mean did you see that guy last night who was as deaf as a doorpost, tears were rolling down my face, he was hilarious that guy, he couldn't hear a word the judges were saying to him so how the hell did he know what his voice sounded like, I thought it was really funny, just good entertainment and light relief on a Saturday night.

I love watching Simon Cowell, whether I like him is another question - he is honest. The oldies like me should make way for all the wonderful young contestants. I mean why make such a fool of yourself deliberately? Maybe they are as deluded as some of the youngsters - should know better.

They should definitely set an age limit to stop things which are way too unrealistic! Sometimes its just silly! The judges can't be that wonderful at picking anyway, most of the people who win these things don't last very long at all, the big exception being Girls Aloud.

I only watch the auditions for the comedy factor!

Those old people are so cute! But they know themselves they aren't going to be put though they just want the chance to sing in front of the judges!

Simon Cowell is amazing! i love watching him, i don't think he is nasty either he is just being honest he has had loads of good signings who have made him fortunes, so he def knows what he is talking about!

Trev's back!!!! I've met him! =-)

My heart sinks when an oldie walks on, then starts warbling some old Gracie Fields song! I'm not being horrible, but are they serious???? I just hope when I get old, I don't start humiliating myself like that! Oh, and Simon Cowell rocks!!!!
