I have 14,11,4 yr old and 11 month old, I remember not really using much baby food with my first child as it contained chalk, I think the word for it was multidextin??? Not sure actually but I know baby food used to have chalk, now its food!!!

I do think it's down to being too busy rather than being too lasy if i'm honest! It depends what we have for dinner, I can hardly blend chilli con carne! But I must admit with all the organic baby food I sometimes think my baby has a fantastic diet, when I look at the ingredients! I used to make such an effort with my first and 2nd children, but then again I didn't have to go back and forward to 2 different schools and a nursery! I used to have it easy with only 2 kids! I now wonder why I made it all take so long!! Oh well you have to laugh!

Well I've not come across a nice one yet so would've hated to have tried one 14yrs ago. The jar and canned stuff hardly has any calories in only about 80-90Cal per jar, if i was on the run and used these my son used to wake in the night as he was hungry, when I read the calorie value I knew why.

Do as I did thirty years ago and blend the food yourself.
That way you will know what is going in.
I don't think that it has improved very much - but I do think that we have all got lazier.
I don't mean to be rude - but blended baby food was a labour saving idea then and as now it is just a money maker for the food companies.

I have zero time. I am in a masters program full time, my Wife is in Iraq, I am house hunting and buying, 2 dogs, 3 cats and I have a 7mo. old who is a week away from crawling, and I prepare fresh organic fruits and veggies everyday. I also drive a 2 hr. rd. trip every week to get fresh goats milk. I also cook/prepare the same foods for the animals. So regardless how we measure how far they have come, we owe it to our children to make the sacrifice, and make them good foods. It's a matter of priority.

I wouldn't feed my baby any of that sh1t in a jar personally, no matter how far its come on.... I don't care how busy I am, I would always prepare fresh, whole foods for my children... its fine now and again, on the move, but not constantly...
Your baby can eat what you eat, providing you are eating non-processed foods.

Chalk, or "calcium carbonate" as it is also known is required eating, as, guess what, "BONE" is made out of exactly the same stuff...
Its better to get "chalk" out of fresh veg and milk over any processed food...
multidextin - only word that's close to this is maltodextrin - corn starch - that is not chalk...

I agree with you, but when my babies were at the baby food stage I didn't really buy ready made baby food unless I had to. I tried to make my own pureed food as much as possible. It was healthier and I knew exactly what was in it.

Umm... I don't have a baby but a friend of mine introduced me to those little pots of baby food with fruit mush a couple of years ago... I love them and I think they're a lot better than they used to be, very yummy especially the banana apple ones...
... I'll get my coat.
