1. COMPUTER and printer and paper --and extra printer cartridges - the ink will run out the night before your paper is due!

2. A CELL PHONE or phone card to call friends who are going to other schools or call home to tell them what you forgot or need!

3. List of all your friends email addresses and phone numbers

4. iPod or other entertainment with HEADPHONES! (So your roommate doesn't complain if you want to listen and they're studying or sleeping or listening to something else).

5. TV if your roommates aren't bringing one (& DVD player).

6. Small FRIDGE for room if your dorm allows it. (Small microwave if they don't have them but let you have one - great for popcorn!)

7. BIG pillow for hanging out or studying on your bed or the floor.

8. CAR if you're allowed and have one.

9. Extra sheets & pillowcases (& underwear) so you can wait longer before you need to do laundry. Don't forget the Tide or other detergent. (Even better if you can wait to wash stuff at home!)

10. COMFORTER - NOT blankets -- easier to make the bed! Just toss it over the bed and you're done!

11. A friend from home / school who is going to the same school (even if you don't hang out -- you've got a back up if you need a touch of home).

12. Earplugs when you've got a big test the next day and the dorm is partying!

13. A waterproof tote or bag or small bucket to carry your shower stuff back and forth to the bathroom - especially good in the morning when you just grab it & you're half awake & need to get to class! (Shampoo, conditioner, deoderant, soap, toothbrush, etc. Razors & shaving cream for guys & hair stuff & makeup bag for girls)

14. Birth control and/or condoms if you're sexually active or hope to be!

15. Great smile, friendly attitude and tolerance for new roommates!

Have fun!

You mean what are the best things to bring to a college dorm? Or what is the best thing to get out of a college dorm life? Well, if it's the first, definitely a microwave, tiny fridge, and earplugs. If it's the second, then to know that roommates suck and you never get any homework done, but it's the experience that you're really paying for.

Everything people have said above, plus a flashlight and batteries. I have lived in dorms at 2 different colleges and experienced blackouts at both of them.

Bring lots of things like posters, pictures, and stuff like that because the more personalized your room is, the more inviting it will be to others. A comfortable atmosphere is very important.

Also, definitely bring a fan.

People have covered the basics, but one thing that people ALWAYS forget is a small toolkit. You'd be surprised how many times you will use it.
