I had the same problem too. I used them when I go to the market with Mum and then I tossed them away.
If none of the suggestions here works, maybe you should call Birkenstock and ask them what you should do? They should have a few tips to help you ((:

If you have the removable cork inserts, they can be replaced.

Ventillate for many hours: no water at all please, not even moisture, no humidity. sprinkle some powder perfume, just dusting.
