Aren't you sick of all the popups while watching a movie or show?
Some shows have so many extras on the screen you can hardly see the picture.

I could not agree with you more.

It all started in the late 1980s with the "bug," usually in the lower right corner of the screen -- networks were concerned that with so many viewing options, viewers might forget where to see their programming.

It spun out of control after that, with flashing/dancing constantly annoying promos and messages throughout.

It's gotten so bad that my preferred method of watching current television is to wait for the DVD sets. No bugs, no promos, no commercials ... a one-hour show zips by in less than 45 minutes and the experience can be appreciated the way the artists intended.

They can get away with it, because there is no alternative - if everyone does it. If there were some quality channels that didn't have 50% adverts, pop-ups and other annoyances then they'd probably get far more viewers than the ones who DO use them. Of course, they'd also get far less money from corporate sponsors, and not be able to afford the decent programs they'd need to survive. Another example of why the media is in the pockets of the fat cat businessmen.

Absolutlely, what is the deal with those bugs in the corner, those are definitely an example of "just because we can do something doesn't mean we should".
