If your bios is set to boot from CD then just pop the first installation CD in and start the computer with the disk already inside. It will then load the installer.

If you have a bootable Linux CD, you simply insert it into the CD/DVD ROM drive and start your computer. You must ensure it is an installable version of Linux though, and not a Live CD which allows you to run Linux from the CD when you already have an operating system (OS) installed.

I guess you've just hit the first "oh my god, how do I do this?" BTW, this is also how you install Windows after you've fdisked and formatted your computer.
Go to BIOS and look for the BOOT window. Make sure your cd can boot first (move it to the top of the list). Then place the cd in your cd drive. It should immediately start to load (though you may need to turn the computer off and back on).
Good luck with your first Linux installation!

Make sure your machine boots from the CD drive first, set the bios for this.
If you want to do a complete install of linux as eveyone else has said put the Cd in the drive & reboot.
Do you want to get at your windows files to say back them up to do a reinstall of windows? if thats the case use a live distro to back up to an external hard drive or install linux on a partition, it will do this for you from the installaton screen then you can copy your windows files to CD usining k3b burning programme.

Just install it - burn the ISO images as CDs appropriately, boot your laptop to the CD and follow the on-screen instructions.
