Who cares what those Hollywood Commies think?
They got rich in America, and now they hate America.
No one considers their opinions important except little air-head twats.

No. I really don't value celebrity or performers opinions on politics and I really wish they wouldn't get into the political ring. They are no more or no less qualified than any other person on the street to evaluate what is best for the country.
I think it is a bad career move for celebrities or performers to state their political views or announce their support for a candidate. A certain percentage of their auidience is going to feel strongly one way while a certain percentage of their audience is going to feel strongly the other way. By announcing support of one candidate over another, they are going to alienate and possibly lose the other percentage of their auidience.
Alice Cooper had a good series of quotes on this very topic. I think that they apply to actors and rock musicians...
The 56-year-old Cooper says he was disgusted to learn the likes of Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, James Taylor and Dave Matthews were hitting the road for a series of concerts designed to help defeat President Bush.
"To me, that's treason," Cooper told the Canadian Press. "I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics."
"When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could. So when I see all these rock stars up there talking politics, it makes me sick.
"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."
"Besides," he continued, "when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."

Their opinions are no more important than anyone else's. Celebrity endorsements are not a reason to choose a candidate. The character, political beliefs and voting record of the candidate are.

I don't think celebrity opinions influence my choices, since I don't consider them to be more infomed than the average politically-active person. They're not blessed with supernatural intuition, and their only advantage over the average voter is that they do have face to face time with the candidates. However, in a campaign we all have access to plenty of information, and even though media are biased, they still remain an important source of information for voters.

Perhaps if they light a spark and make someone take a look at issues and that encourages people to start thinking. Actors and musicians on both sides of the political fence speak out so why is that a problem?

Their opinions are no more important than anyone else's...at least the way I see things.
I am sure some people are swayed by the opinions of celebrities (and their local ministers who politicize from the pulpit).
Herein lies the problem. If people rely on the opinions of celebrity/authoritative figures in their voting, then they are not thinking for themselves. When people lose the ability to think for themselves, democracy is truly in peril.

Madonna? You know who's Mother?
Aflac? The duck? Is his name Ben? I didn't know that.
Kerry, John? A WC in Ireland?
Why would they have anything to do with me making up my mind?

Personally, no. I think singers and actors should stick to singing and acting and leave politics to the politicians. They are often uninformed....therefore dangerous. I suspect they express their opinions for their self-aggrandisement.
Can't comment on your second question.....I'm UK.

Well, since Madonna is pretty much a skank, her opinion certainly helps me decide what NOT to do.
