This is just a guess, but I'm thinking that "hits the spot" must be a term related to archery, where "spot" = "bullseye"...so, something that "hits the spot" achieves the best possible outcome.

"hits the spot" is usually meant for food or drinks.. it means that particular food or drink is just what the person wanted.
i don't really think the word friendship is used together with the phrase "hits the spot" though.
