"hits the spot" is a phrase meaning something is exacly what was needed. A more typical use is when someone thirsty takes the first long drink of a beverage. They might say "that hit the spot".

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking that "hits the spot" must be a term related to archery, where "spot" = "bullseye"...so, something that "hits the spot" achieves the best possible outcome.

"hits the spot" is usually meant for food or drinks.. it means that particular food or drink is just what the person wanted.

i don't really think the word friendship is used together with the phrase "hits the spot" though.

It is a good meaning. It means the friend is good for you and you are both good friends. "Hits the spot" always refers to something being good for you.
