Eddie is wrong, Rona is right. It's a two-part equation... When we "diet" by reducing caloric intake, our bodies often obligingly respond by lowering our metabolism. Goes into "starvation mode".... Consistent exercise artificially raises the metabolism, often for hours after the actual workout. My only complaint with rope skipping is this.... It's not a particularly well-balanced exercise. Boxers used to like it because it promotes good footwork. However, it doesn't really use much of your musculature.. Nothing in the upper body, and largely the calves as far as your legs go. IMO... It's a great warm-up. You should be doing a combination of aerobic exercise and also strength-building, weight-bearing work for upper-body strength and bone health.
