Electric all the way, example being The Nutty Rock(Nutcracker Mix) from the Dropkick Murphys(Singles Collection Vol. 2) and man, I know there is supposed to be no vocals but there's like 4 words in the song so I'll put it on anyway, that song being Horrorbeach by the Horrorpops, very gnarly surf tune!

The music comes from the writer - the guitar playing comes from the guitarist.
Put your question a different way - and ask who plays the best guitar instrumental! You would have to go a long way to beat Hank Marvin of the Shadows for electric - and you would really have to go a long way to beat Bert Weedon for Acoustic. Check it out and let me know what you think - I play guitar and these people are my idols! If you haven't heard of them, go get some - it is worth it!

Totaly agree with Beck but try these guys:
Gary Lucas - plays both types, based in NYC
Greg Koch - Fender spokesman, out of Milwaukee
Danny Gatton - I want EVERYTHING he's done. "88 Elmira St." Grammy nominated all instrumental.
Lenny Breau - fantastic player. Had a seven string acoustic and was equally skilled on electric. SRV's "Lenny" was about him.

Acoustic would have to be a song called "Dee" on Ozzy's first album titled Blizzard of Ozz. The guitarist Randy Rhodes wrote it for his mother.

Electric would have to be "Eruption" on Van Halen's first album. Eddie Van Halen is a guitar god/genius. If you havn't heard of one or the other I highly recommend you do.
