Its difficult and costly once its levied to remove it .Can you prove its a financial hardship,with paper prof not just your word.The only sure way other than proving the hardship clause is to pay it off ,did you ever offer and offer in compromise to the IRS before the garnishment? They will at times take a lot less than what you actually owe.Bankruptcy is not an answer because it doesn't discharge the debt and screws up your credit more.. If your debt to the government is $25,000.00 or below now the IRS has hired out side collections agency's to collect those accounts. Simply wrong in my way of thinking.I wish I could offer you more upbeat advice but I cant.Once the get their claws in you it hurts a long long time .I wish you luck and hope another answer can help you better.

Write them a big ol' check for the amount due... If you owe taxes and they've gone to the point of garnishing wages, you're out of luck. The government will simply deduct a portion from each of your paychecks, and employers have no choice in the matter.

Might be time to get a 2nd job to offset the lost income

pay the money owed or set up a payment plan with them and honor the agreement by paying the agreed amount at the agreed time
