Good one…well I cannot explain the reason but I can say that comedy and tragedy are just staying together dividing by a thin line.

In an interview, wrong answer, tragedy for participant but comedy for interviewer.

If someone, just slipped and getting off on the road or field people including kid get natural amusement but when see the bleeding all rush for help.

In any joke or fun story, without humiliating any person or group, rarely it would get sense.

Genetic reason would have been there, I think.

In certain situations its they way people cope. Consider firefighter/ambulance personnel who see disaster, death, tragedy all the time. They will say funny things to each other - usually not about what they are dealing with- so they can laugh. If they didn't these people would burn out and leave their positions. So when you see people laughing its not always about what you think it is.

Other times people are just so miserable themselves that the situation reminds them of their own problems that they don't want to think about - so they laugh for distraction.

Finally - some people are just unsympathetic idiots.

I think sometimes it's because they don't know what to say or do in a certain situation so they laugh out of nervousness' Others are just plain cruel. I also think sometimes we make jokes about bad events because we just don't want people to see our soft spot.

Because some people are cruel, probably because others have been cruel to them. Its a sad fact of life. There's hope for some of them, but for others its best to stay away from them.

We call it :
Schadenfreude — sorry, I don't know the
correct American term....but that's our kind of humor.
And it is still human!!!

Sitting in a high-class movie theater and watching
Chaplin eating his own shoes...

Or Bob Hoskins in Toontown, when he's in the
elevator. Or when he goes to the men's room AND
there is a men's room — but no floor!!!
"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh........!!!!. "

Or watching Duffy Duck when she nearly gets
killed by Bugs Bunny and Elmar ....
"sssssssssst I'm huntin' Wwrrabbits...hehe..."

Or Coyote, when he tries to catch the "silly"
Roadrunner, who isn't that silly, because Coyote
never gets him... Funny ?

Of course.... Schadenfreude ... but I love it.

some people are just plain insensitive. or another reason could be that they do not know how to deal with a person who is sad and is in misery. in that case, it's ignorance.

well, people tend to do that when they are hiding their own sadness.... some just doesn't want to understand others sadness..they'd rather be an *** than a human being.

for some, it is the only way they have to deal with a situation that they hope never happens to them. For others, it is the essence of comedy
