I go to school in Ireland and im 14 yrs old. The school system in Ireland is different from others. After 6th class we go into 1st year of secondary school and its 6 yrs in secondary school and college after 6th year. 4th year is optional. 4th year is just a year with lots of trips and littled learning. Basically its a waste. At first i didnt want to do 4th year but very late on i changed my mind.

All my friends are doing it. That was one of the reasons. But my school is starting next week and im wondering if i made the right choice. I can still change to 5th year right now if i wanted to. Lots of my bullies are doing 5th year. Thats one reason i didnt do it. But i kinda think 4th year wont help me educationally that much. But if i do 5th year it could be hell for me with all those ppl that i hate. Im also very young and wil be the youngest in 4th year or 5th year.

I dont know what to do
Should i change? Pls help but be responsible in answering as it could change my life.....

First of all, no matter what I or any other person says, this is your choice.

Have you talked to a school counselor and/or your parents? Keep in mind what they say. While 4th year may not seem that educational, remember that you are a kid only once. While 4th year may not be educational in the book sense, it will give you experience in other cultures and help you make friends that will be friends for life. It will help increase emotional intelligience and maybe you can learn a new language. It doesn't seem as if you will enjoy 5th year as much with no friends and all those bullies. My recommendation is enjoy being young, do 4th year because you will be an adult for a longer amount of time than being a kid. Good luck and I hope things work out.

From the information I have heard over the last few years about schools in Ireland, those students who have a clear goal as to what they want after school is over say that skipping 4th year was a good choice for them.

On the other hand, those students who said that they really had no idea of what they were going to do when then finished their education almost all said that 4th year seemed to help their education and choice of work in the long run.

Based upon this, I would say if you know what you are going to do, skip 4th year, if not take it.

it seems to me that travel is learning. more life learning than book learning so to think of it as a waste seems inaccurate to me. people with all book learning and no life lessons are usually lacking in common sense (from my experience at least).
it also seems like you have thought this through very well and have probably already answered this question for yourself, you just want someone to back your decision.

4th year will teach you more than you think it will.
it's hard to learn about something about which you know nothing. it's a whole lot easier to learn it while you are living it. traveling with people other than your family is a learning experience in itself.
