Check what keyboard you have set up, you probably have to change it.
Just experiment with those listed until you hit the one that works for your keyboard.
Usual problem for me, in UK, is machines coming with US not UK keyboard settings as default

It's probably shift + 2, as this is the default US layout, which Microsoft tends to give you.
If you go into your Control Panel through the start menu, choose 'Regional Settings', you can set the options to 'United Kingdom' instead. That will move the '@' key back to it's normal position on your keyboard.

Could be lotsa things.
First, shutdown, power down, and reseat your keyboard cable, then power up.
Are you using a USB keyboard?
What application are you using the @ key in? Does it work in other applications?

I had the same problem. I at last found it hiding where " symbol was indicated.
