Especially that unquantifiable moment when the hue turns from wet wonder to the rest of its life.....

I would say yes but it depends on the paint. Vinyl emulsion's a no-no but gloss exterior can be fascinating.

Compared to watching grass grow, I would say yes. Especially if you can time-lapse photograph the grass. Because then you can watch it shrink!
