I am writing an essay on this for my class and would like to get any information you may have on this subject. My thesis statement will be women receive less training than men but are held to higher promotional standards than men. Any help would be appreciated. I realize I have posted this question already I just wanted to know if anyone else had anything to add about this issue. Thanks!

Okay enough with the up the skirt thoughts. Please! This is a celing you can not see but it holds women back from being promoted to higher positions within the company.

Yes, it still exists. I did find that men "dismiss" what they don't want to deal with whereas women are held accountable for what men would and could dismiss as well as get away with it.

I am a female executive...while not pretending to represent the entire population of female executives I can provide you with some insight into this area. First, I believe that your thesis is incorrect. In Governement, for example, training opportunties are plentiful, for both men and women. My colleagues in industry have stated that while training is sometimes the first area to take a budget cuts in lean times, the opportunties are favorable for all individuals (male or female). The second part of your thesis is erroneous, too. However, that is more difficult to prove because we do not keep good metrics on "experiential" job assignments for men and women. The job assignments an individual receives in their career are a key indicator of management "nourturing" a person's career. Look at an individual career, job assignment portfolio and pay special attention to the 10-20 year point and look for the following:
- job assignment directly related to the company bottom line. Anything in a support area (Human resources, Personnel, IT) is always suspect
- Networking opportunties. Look to see the "network" the individual has access to as an indication for "in the club" membership
- Assignments out off headquarters...especially a challenging assignment were a major success, turn around ocurred
- Playing Golf...that's a good indication of good social skills, especially if business relationships are nurtured in the golf course...do not laugh, this is true!


I am not blind to the fact that less than 2% of all CEOs are women...so the imbalance is there, for sure. However, I believe that the causes you identified are not correct as a "cause and effect" thesis. Please study the framework I presented and see if you can argue the case accordingly.

I feel that women are slighted because the men think that they can not handle the pressure of closing deals. in my experience, even though
I am an office manager, when there are any problems or someone wants to speak with management, they prefer a man. The owner of my company hates the fact that women are still considered inapt for businesses, more people would rather deal with a man, I guess they feel they don't want to get down to the nitty gritty with a woman. I get sick of when someone calls to speak with the manager and I answer the phone, they say really rude I was holding for the manager, then I love to correct them.

Companies with glass ceilings are being suboptimally managed, in addition to the obvious unfairness being shown. The main foundation of the capitalist system is for resources to be used in the most efficient and effective way possible. Glass ceilings work against this important tenet.

I don't think there is a so called "glass ceiling" like there has been in todays business world. Women are now CEO's in lots of companies. Take Pepsi Inc. They just appointed a women to be their CEO.

I worked in an office with a glass ceiling. Luckily, the secretary on the second floor had her desk right above it, and lots of times she wore miniskirts so I could see her panties through the glass ceiling. Good times.

I HATE it!! However, in some compaies it does not..just be yourself and dont let anyone push you around
