West Side Story- A musical, winner of 10 oscars
Citizen Kane- Got Orson Wells on black lists, but brilliant. Wells' use of weights to simulate an old man was outstanding.
Stalag 17- Classic mystery thriller, w/ plenty of humor to lighten the mood
Die Hard- Action packed thriller, clever plot, w/ more of a "normal" guy than any w/ Arnold.
A Fish Called Wanda- You want comedy? John Cleese, Kevin Kline, etc. This movie has everything from hijinx to subtle dry humor. It's a riot throughout.
Honorable mention:
Gladiator- The classic epic returns to the big screen.
Matrix- Landmark effects, a brilliant storyline that starts with the viewer completely confused but rapt in the movie, then ties everything together w/ impeccible continuity.
Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure- Silly yet irresistably funny
X-Men 2- WOW. Edge of your seat throughout.
Hoosiers- Leadership, principles, forgiveness and redemption all tied together in a feel-good classic. Based on a true story makes it even better.
