Ok, the current theory on this is that we live in a multiverse, not a universe. In other words, there are countless billions of other universes outside of our own to which we cannot access as they're are made up other dimensions than our own. Thus, our universe, as it expands, is slowly pressing upon another universe and changing its shape. Ours as well may be changing its shape too as it is pressed by another universe. The only analogy we can see to this is when you form soap bubbles and see how they form and expand. As to the limit of multiverses and what they are expanding into, it is believed that a "nonverse" must exist that is the opposite of the materials that make up the multiverses and is infinite. Now what lies beyond the nonverse, if it does have an end, is still open for conjecture.

I'm pretty sure, it doesn't mean the Universe is PHYSICALLY expanding so much as the Universe is expanding for humans. What is out there and how big it is...has always been there right, I think what people mean by saying that is that we are just now beginning to develop technology that will allow us to reach further and further into different reaches of the universe....!!! This was actually a pretty good question...made me think for a minute and that doesn't happen too often on here! lol! cHeErS!!! ;)

Emptiness or Space . It has so much space to expand into that' s why it is expanding every second even right now .Emptiness is everywhere for the Universe the one verse to expand into .

As far as I understand it, it doesn't expand into anything - the universe takes it's own time, space and matter with it. To be honest, I don't think the human brain can truely comprehend the whole universe business.

Nearly a vacuum! In time, we shall be able to perceive only the local galaxy, for the others will be beyond the limits of the Observable Universe. That will make us feel alone. As for other universes, who knows? This is a comparatively new theory that needs work...if it's true at all. Someone mentioned God. To say, "God did it", merely means, "I don't know, but I want to pretend that I do". It has no place in Science.

Read Hawking's book 'The Universe in a Nutshell'. Ideas there is the best science can answer... You can always escape to religion and give the final answer to any question: God.
