why does my perfume smells so strong if I don't use it for a long time?

Because it becomes more concentrated. Perfumes consist of a number of chemicals which give the "smell" dissolved in a solvent like an oil, water or alcohol.

If you leave them for a long time then some of the solvent will evaporate, leaving the smell-giving chemicals behind and making them more concentrated and therefore smelling stronger.

You should also be careful about leaving perfumes in the sun or in a warm place as chemical reactions may take place which will either make the smell stronger or even alter the smell.

The moment you spray or open a cologne bottle the alcohol starts diffusing. The trick there is to keep using the scent the moment you start until you eventually finish it off. Do not save it for special occassions because it would have changed by then.

Store them in a cool dry place that is away from sunlight so the alcohol does not mess up and oils do not break down even faster.
