so the clerk also black starts helping her in the middle of helping me! I was calm outside, but it did bug me. later the customer did come back and apologize, but if it had been the reverse, (me, a white lady) interrupting, how many of you think I would have been cussed out on the spot?

I should add because I am white and live in a mostly black community, this and similar stuff happens a lot. and I do just deal with it, because as some of you say, it is not worth it to worry about it. but then when I am in a white community and the reverse happens, a lot of time, the black customer will raise all kinds of hell. just an observation, and if they lady in my case hadnt apologized I would not have thought further about it, but because she did, it makes me wonder.

St. Hell, what are you talking about? did you even read the question?

2006-08-27 00:14:58 · update #2

well, her question ended up being 2 then 3 questions and turns out it was the same thing I was trying to get resolved, but because she "wanted to ask a question" she got her problem resolved and I waited another 10 minutes. I asked the question because I would not dream of cutting in front of someone who is already in line (I have worked retail and always told those people they need to get in line) and by the way, my children are black, so I am sooooo not racist.

Just another example of blacks thinking they don't have to obey by the rules of a civilized society. Don't blame them though we have only been trying to domesticate them for a little over 150 years...evolution is a slow process.

I think you are way too sensitive. I have done the same thing with a simple quick question...big deal . Are you in that much of a hurry to get somewhere, do something? Give life and others a break, count to ten before you come out swinging. And, I dont' care what you say, this question is racist! If the asker had been white, if the clerk had been white, would we be having this conversation. I know this will not be picked best answer, and I don't care...it is the most honest one you will find in this heap.,

i dont think color really has anything to do with it, i know personally as a cashier your kind of put on the spot when a customer does that, ive had it happen many times and all your trying to do is do your job and not let any customers leave mad so things like that happen and your just trying to do your job best and please everyone. i think it was very nice of the lady to come back and apologize to you, i hope the employee apologized too. but i dont think that color made a difference people arent like that well nowhere ive ever been, you probably would have got the same reaction if the situation were reversed , why worry about what could of happened , cause it didnt.

I have to admit I've done that exact thing in the past. I'm American Indian, born but not raised. Culture is culture regardless of where one finds it. Ppl are just ppl. If this happened to me and it didn't cause me unnecessary wait time I'd blow it off - let it go. If I had to wait while the clerk left her station I'd just leave my stuff (if what I was buying was not all that important - done that too!) and make a complaint to the managers office. I'd end up going back to the store later of course - I'm sure they know that as well. As for getting cussed out; I'd say with the personalities you delt with that wouldn't have happened. At least I don't think so. My advice about where you live; move! Done that too!

You need to get a grip. A woman was being rude and cut in front of the line yada yada, and then later came back and apologize for being rude. That is what happened. I personally appreciate the fact that all you are able to focus on is the fact that this black woman, and if me a white woman had etc... I always appreciate it when white people are being honest, and not pretending with me. I like my racism up front and in the open. It was an incident that happened and she apologized for doing so. Most people wouldn't even bother to do so even after the incident. But you focus on what this black woman did the rudest thing to you. "How dare such a thing like that happens to me, a white woman", I am wondering if that is what you are really thinking. Get a grip of yourself. You might want to consider moving to a different neighborhood.

If the customer aplogized for cutting you, then what's the problem, sweetie? Thankfully, she did do that. Not too many people (no matter what color they are) wouldn't have done that. You're making a mountain out of a molehill, dear. There are still people out here with manners, so please don't go into the "what ifs" "but ifs" and any other "ifs" you can think of. There are more important things in this world to be concerned about than someone cutting in front of you. Once again, the young lady apologized to you. Don't make a big deal out of it.

Given that she apologized, I kind of doubt that you would have been cussed out. There's not much you can do about the social culture you live in.

For a while, I lived in a predominantly black neighborhood but I never had any issues. Actually the staff at the stores were friendlier than I was used to and remembered me. So when I walked up to the counters for items, they knew what I wanted. I don't think I was being treated any differently...

I've actually seen a white person push an African-American BOY out of the way so that they could pay for their gas, because THEY were in a hurry. Thankfully, I was at the register and I ignored the white person. BTW, I'm Caucasian, does that answer you're question?

Oh, you petty little woman!

Being polite to others...ALL others...isn't just a social convenience, it's a moral obligation. It's the first, most basic step toward peaceful relationships on a grander scale.

"A black lady" may have been momentarily rude by interrupting you...but YOU have been far more rude in the silly offense you've taken, and in the pointless brooding you've done over this tiniest of incidents.

Shame on you. Grow up!

And please accept my apologies if I've hurt your oddly delicate feelings...

I don't think the colour of the skin of the people involved is at all important. It was just an incident, things like that happen all the time, just don't worry about it, that would be a total waste of time and energy.

ok okay, maybe color here isn't the question, because whites,or hispanics do it too.All i can say is your right it seems every culure is breaking down morality, politeness, even helpfullness(unless something like 9-11 or Katrina hits then we seem to pull together)I live in a hispanic neighborhood and it happens all the time.Whites should be considered a minority also, then maybe we can get our share of attension.
