Derelict land is land which has, for some reason, been left unused for a long time e.g. an old quarry, an industrial plant that has closed down or farm land that is no longer used. Land reclamation is the taking of derelict land and bringing it back into use. It can also mean using dikes and dams to push back the sea (as in Holland) to create usable land.
