It would depend on the kind of cough syrup. Many have "narcotic" prperties such as hydrocodone (vicodin) codeine (tylenol#3) etc. all of which are highly addictive. I don't know how much you take or what type but there are other ingredients in it that will hurt you.. Such as acetaminophin(tylenol) which when taken in large amounts will severly damage your liver which could cause death. You need to talk with your Dr. or check your self into a drug treatment center...(you can do it out-patient) before it's too late! Hope you get some help!

Alright. What you want to do is
One, Increase water in your diet. If your not getting 8 glasses a day drink 8 glasses. This will help somewhat to level off the damage to your stomach while you do the next step. It will also help reduce the bad effects.
Two, Wean yourself off of it. Take a little less than you normally do every day. Pretty soon youll be down to a tiny bit, and then you can effectively just drop it all together.
Lets say you take 2 tablespoons every day. Take one tablespoon and then measure up another tablespoon. Spill otu a little. Then the next day spill out a little more. Keep doing this until your down to nothing.
And if you can just drop it cold turkey do that. Whatever gets you out of the addiction faster.
If it is hydrocodone or codene or some of that type you will get intense withdrawal symptoms so your best bet is to drop it cold turkey.
I went on hydrocodone as a pain killer after surgery. I was not weened off of it. It was a small dose so I figured I could just drop it.
The first few days getting off of hydrocodone was weird to say the least. I was in a half dream state all day with my eyes half closed. I could regular things but I would often feel dizzy and lightheaded especially when I went out and did something out of my routine. Nothign like throwing up or pains, just discomfort and uneasiness. The worst of it all was never feeling like you really woke up, but the symptoms subsided in 4 days.

If the cough syrup contains a narcotic like hydrocodone or codeine you may need some serious professional intervention.
You can try to wean yourself off it by trying to reduce your usage a little day by day. Cold turkey can be a bugbear if you are taking narcotic cough syrups. Getting on a good health building program will help.

If you can't stop on your own, you need to seek professional help. You're not addicted to the cough syrup, but the drug that's in it. Like with any drug, you need professional help to stop.

Haha, you are a Robitussin fiend. That's pretty funny.

You could check out www.erowid.org for information on DXM, though (that's the drug in cough syrup).

If you are on a medication such as Tussend or Tussionex with hydrocodone, one man went on Methadone like a heroine addict to live with it.
