If you live in an area where public transport is readily available then you should use it. I live in an area where there is little or none in the way of public transport so to own a car is an essential

Where available; public transport rules.
Public Transport in the UK, while getting a continual bad press, really isn't too bad. Looking at quite a few other developed countries and we do okay.

I am sorry to say it but car wins every time. Public transport is dirty, cold and is never on time. I also have to use my car for work purposes to see my patients and because I work in a rural area, there would be no convenient and speedy way of getting about.

depends on where you live. in the states I guess living in the suburbs one just cannot get around without having a car. but if you live in the city centre (as I do) I do not see the need for one.Causing polution, getting mad at traffic jams, wasting time on your car - all this makes me a strong supporter of the public transport. But we need campaigns to make public transport fashionable, otherwise people still believe it is much cooler for their image to drive a car.
