The reason why Pluto is now a Dwarf Planet and not a full planet is this: there's is a lot of other space junk floating around Pluto's orbit. Pluto just happens to be the biggest of the space junk in the region (Kuiper belt) that we've been able to observe.

Oh well... Afterall Pluto was a HUGE let down for a planet considering Neptune is pretty darn big.

For people that keep posting..."Who cares?" What are you doing in the science section? Go to Hades (ruled ironically by Pluto in a way). Of course it doesn't matter... A lot of science is just the pursuit of knowledge. So do us all a favor, shut up, and stop looking so damn ignorant.

People can call it what ever they want. They can call it a planet or a chocolate sundae, it matters not, unless you want to use proper Astronomical nomenclature.

Astronomy is a Science and the scientists have a process of research and classification that is an effort to raise human knowledge and understanding of what is real as opposed to what is imagined.

It the people who organize a science into a body of knowledge, learn enough to change the definitions of things, then that shows that the science is not dead. New knowledge requires change. Change requires new definitions. If - by the new definitions - Pluto will be reclassified as a Plutino, or something, then so be it.

People who are stubborn or too conservative will throw up their hands and complain. Let them. That is what free speech is all about. If they want to say the moon is made of green cheese, let them. Do you care? Just so long as they don't start hoax mongering! "Pluto Lives! Long Live Pluto!"

Things change. That is what life is all about. That is what science is all about. If you don't change, you might as well be dead.

;-D Relax and enjoy the ride.

Well it has been a planet since long before man walked the earth. I would just like to know who made the decision that it was no longer a planet. Was a world wide poll conducted and the majority ruled. How has this all come about. I think the answer is ...Of course it is still a planet and why shouldnt it be.

Scientists in Prague have come up with a new definition of what a planet is, in order to go further into space classifying planets. Pluto is now considered a Dwarf planet. But have no fear we still have 9, Xena, new planet past Pluto not its registered name, has been added. Some scientists say that there are up to 40 like Xena that could possibly added.

I was raised with this idea but I have to be open to the concept that we will be changing our theories and what is commonly held beliefs all the time. What does it matter just how many objects out there are called planets anyway? How does that affect life on Earth? Nothing out there has changed. It's just been given a new classification. That will probably change again in the next 30 years. Who gets to make these decisions anyway?

Well friend you have accept some hard facts in life. Pluto has been officially recognised as the ninth planet just because of its size. There are a number of bodies between mars and Jupiter moving around the sun which are known as asteroids. We cannot give any recognition to them as planets.

We have to upgrade ourselves in this fast changing world.

Oh.my.freaking.god. How much would you hate to be Pluto right now? I swear, Pluto's gonna develop a complex and go on a shooting spree and just wipe out like half the galaxy. I don't care what some f*ckin russian scientists say, pluto is still a planet to me!

poor pluto

I think so. But is must be called a dwarf planet. NASA found a tenth planet so they will consider pluto to be an asteroid.

Pluto is a planet...Just because it's small and far away doesn't mean they can change their mind's one day and say it's not a planet.
