While I will not comment on the "philosophic" part of that question, from a biology standpoint, both sexes are necessary. This is not simply for the point of ovum versus sperm either. Research has shown that specific genes are "imprinted", that is their expression is regulated, only as a result of passing through a male or a female specifically. Certain genes only become active during embryonic development when they have specifically been inherited through the matrilineal or the patrilineal chromosome. If you follow the expression of the genes, one example is a gene known as "insulin-like growth factor 2", the gene copy that is activated during development is only the one received through the maternal genome. There are now examples of this effect for both maternal and paternal derived genes.

Say some how magically women could reproduce on their own similiar to other animals on this planet. And all of the men died off. Technically you wouldn't need men to continue the human race but the advancement of human thought, exploration, technology, and creation would cease. I'd say that within a few years only a select few major cities would be able to operate, while the rest of the world would regress back to the third world way of life. And a few decades after that the world would be like something out of a Mad Max movie. I'm sorry to say this but it has been the aggressive spirit of men and their desire for knowledge that has brought about most of the great human achievements. Unfortunately it has brought about many of the greatest atrocities, but still men have done more good than bad. I don't understand where this comtempt for men comes from. If it weren't for men humankind would've never made it out of the caves. And a lot of you ladies talk tough but if there were no men you'd be the first ones crying. Women are the ones obsessed with finding a man and getting married. A lot of music made by women is about love, relationships, or romance. About 90% of the movies women watch are romance movies. You're the ones who read books about "Finding a man", or "How to Find a Husband in 30 Days" (actual book title). Every single one of the women's magazine I see have about 50 % of their articles about finding a man, pleasing your man, keeping your man etc.

Careful Femi-Nazis... you still need men.
Cloning has not been really all that viable at creating a strong and viable offspring. After a generation, the human race would be so compromised that it would probably fail to survive. (think of it as really bad interbreeding)
Here's a quote from the Human Genome Project:
Due to the inefficiency of animal cloning (only about 1 or 2 viable offspring for every 100 experiments) and the lack of understanding about reproductive cloning, many scientists and physicians strongly believe that it would be unethical to attempt to clone humans. Not only do most attempts to clone mammals fail, about 30% of clones born alive are affected with "large offspring syndrome" and other debilitating conditions. Several cloned animals have died prematurely from infections and other complications. The same problems would be expected in human cloning. In addition, scientists do not know how cloning could impact mental development. While factors such as intellect and mood may not be as important for a cow or a mouse, they are crucial for the development of healthy humans. With so many unknowns concerning reproductive cloning, the attempt to clone humans at this time is considered potentially dangerous and ethically irresponsible

It's possible. But after X amount of years, there would be no more genetic variation, and all humans would be clones of their mother. Therefore, humans would be unable to adapt to natural conditions of the Earth as time were to go by, and the human species would disappear due to genetic incompetence.
So yes, you can survive for a few long years without us men, but you'll be gone not long after.

With all the sperm we have in the sperm banks, just to keep the population going, we could keep going if all the men in the world died. In probably, 50 years, the population would be back to where we are now, with many more men to continue the population growth.

Both men and women are equally important for this world to move on.We must not forget that it is because of men that most of the inventions were made but also terrorism is because of men.
But i think most importantly we need 'em for reproduction:-p

Men could do the same thing... Anyhow I think its the fact that we dont NEED each other anymore that proves that we LOVE each other more then anything. If you let something go and it comes back to you its 4 realz. Let your mind go and see if it comes back and then youll know truth :)

You make a good point but, you'd still need something to fetilize the embryos.

without men the women won't be. you all are bound to be - for the existence. - eg. one can't clap with one hand the other one is needed to make the noise.
