Got the picture from my front deck. I thought maybe some type of spider, but doesn't have 8 legs but I've never seen anything like it before.

See the following website, it has an image of the exact same species, right down to the yellow spots in the center of its back. They refer to it as the Garden or Banana Spider

Looks like a common "banana" spider. They make a large web ( about 4' across ) in brush and woodlands all over the southeastern U.S. Check these sites to be sure.

I count eight legs. Some are a little close together.

I agree that it looks like a Argiope aurantia (Garden Spider). Check out this link...

this is a corn spider they are mainly found in corn fields of near moist marshy areas like ponds. they are not dangerous but will leave a little bit of a mark is you are bit by one. The best thing that you can do is leave it alone, or if you have kids around then scoop it in to a shoe box and let it go into the wild.

I think it DOES have eight legs, you just can't see them (and I can't blame you for not tapping him on the shoulder and asking him). However, he is some variety of Orb Weaver, and is completely harmless, despite his large size and vibrant markings.

It is not an insect. It is an arachnid, or spider. and yes it does have eight legs. If you look closely, you will see. There are two where it looks like there is only one.

I can't tell you what it's called, but I counted eight legs - up in front the legs seem to double up.

It looks like a standard garden spider.
If it doesn't have eight legs now, it did once. ;o)
