I believe the difference between friendship and courtship is the basis of the relationship. In a friendship you spend time with someone of mutual interests, thoughts, and ways. There is no yearning for more or less just the comfort of good company, and the knowledge of such. In a courtship one person is trying to win the affections of the other. A courtship would be considered more in line with dating or a boyfriend / girlfriend relationship in mind.

Courtship is trying to move into more of a romantic relationship (as opposed to friendship where that is not the goal).
