because tthe hydrogen bridges are not that strong or together

well, there may be several reasons for that. First, you must understand a few principles is dissolving. They are:

1) the more surface area of the solvent is exposed to the solvent, the faster it dissolves. Meaning to say, the finer the grind of the thing to be dissolved, the faster it dissolves. Try it: castor sugar dissolves much faster than coarse ground sugar.

2) The bond between the atoms of the solvent are similar to the bonds in that of the solute. Meaning to say, salt will technically dissolve faster in water because both consist of molecules bound together by ionic bonds, as opposed to the covalent bond in sugar, which is organic.

3) The ratio of energy absorbtion by the solvent from the solute is directly proportional to the rate of dissolving. Meaning to say, the faster the molecules abosorb energy to break the bonds holding it together, the faster it will dissolve.

So coming back your question, salt dissolves faster than sugar of equal volume and surface area because it fulfills the 2nd and 3rd criteria more than sugar. Also, generally, table salt is finer (as in having smaller crystals) that than coarse ground sugar, so it dissolves faster.

Hope that helped.

you do know that salt crystals are generally smaller than sugar crystals ... so it dissolves faster than the sugar ...

because sugar is more complex than salt, salt only has two molecules in it..while sugar has..uhmmm..a lot..

hope this helps..
