Well believing in Darwin gives you more questions than answers. How does evolution really work? If there is evolution, then how do we know there is a god? If there is no god, what is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? And so on...
On the other hand if you believe in the dogma, you have nothing to worry about. The meaning of life is that you should do whatever your priest/imam/rabbi/brahman/... says and not worry about the after life. If you are not overly concerned about "facts" then it is not that difficult a choice is it?

I think man is still debating evolution for the same reason the other “Wonders of the World” remain unsolved. There are so many “Unsolved Mysteries” confronting our civilization today it seems we will never catch up. Greed is one of the negative emotions that we are suppose to overcome, but if those among us, with the means to fund the resolution of some of the Mysteries, don’t come forward, we will never know the truth behind things like evolution. If only wealth would bring enlightenment and insight, subjects like “evolution” , the Great pyramids of Giza, Crop Circles, The Nazca Lines of Peru, Atlantis, Stonehenge, Easter Island, and UFOs, just to name a few, would not be debatable. The list goes on and on. So what has our culture been doing for the last 50 years? How many multimillionaires do we claim today? Has even one (1) of them funded research to shed light on anything except their lifestyles? What’s holding us back? Is the search for “Truth” a goal only for the poor? Maybe its true the average High School student doesn’t know where “Madagascar” is, are has any idea who “Socrates” was, or what country has the lowest divorce rate, and why. Its no wonder evolution is still debated.

Evolution should be debated, that's a good thing.
The real question, though, is, why are people pushing creationism (or Intelligent Design, or whatever it will be called next) as an alternative? After all, this is what Evolution replaced (completely and utterly) 140 years ago.
I'm just waiting for some religious group to start promoting the Earth-centric universe again.

Because it conflicts with religious explanations for life on earth, and people are loath to give up what helps them sleep at night. Scientifically, the only continuing debate surrounds the details of the theory. Darwin was one of the greats.

GOOD QUESTION!!!!
Whenever an idea has been around for at least 140 years it gets to be absolute law.
Why was the issue of slavery debated hundreds of years after the age of exploration and the advent of the colonial slave trade?

Religion and science don't fit neatly together, and neither side will ever admit they are the wrong side of the argument. It will probably be debated for the next 140 years, as well.

because the theory is not observable or repeatable.
The evidence does not speak for itself, it must be interpreted. The answer depends on what you already believe or want to believe. Darwins mechanisms were discarded long ago and are still hotly debated among evolutionists themselves.

Why not?
There are lots of theories that people debate. As long as there is no proof for or against a theory, people who are interested can make whatever statements pro or con that they wish.
;-D Once there is a proof, then that is a different story.

because back then a bunch of geeks got together and thought it would be fun to make up a new theory on life and other geeks believed them, and they have never been able to prove it all so they keep on fighting with those who believe in God just to believe what they say
