Don't go for Java certification. It has nothing to do with J2EE. J2EE is not just another set of libraries on top of J2SE. Thats only part of the answer. J2EE is also a methodology, it uses the different patterns of programming client/server software. The most popular being the MVC(model view controller) pattern. If you really want to become good at J2EE, then you need to start by reading about MVC, then downloading the J2EE libraries. I would also learn Struts. You need to know JSP's and Javascript. After you have all of that figured out, then you may want to learn EJB's. Many people will tell you that J2EE is the same as EJB, these people don't know what they are talking about. EJB is only a small portion of the J2EE spec. Once you have that then you may want to learn some more popular and advanced open source libraries, like Spring, and HIbernate. These are not part of the J2EE spec, but if you know how to use them they can make your life as a developer much easier.

Courses are no good except in a university programme where they take the time to teach you the why's of doing it this way; but J2EE is a step away from J2SE, the regular Java, just now with libraries dealing with enterprise stuff. No more than that.

Samething goes to anything Java but isn't labeled J2SE. Just libraries dealing with whatever they are dealing.
