Though not from a bomb, a little over 30 years ago our family home burnt. My grandmother lived with us and she was taking a shower when the fire began. My mother, 2 of my brothers, and my sister returned home to find flames coming out of the windows. My infant (less than 3 months) brother was in his crib in my mother’s room.

We tried everything we could to get inside to get my grandmother and my little brother. We could not get past the doors because of the heat. I was about 9 years-old, and frantic with the fear of losing my brother and grandmother.

While I ran to a neighbor's house and called the fire department. I left the rest of my siblings at the neighbor's home and went back to help my mother. Picking up a broken brick in the backyard, I began beating on the wall that connected to the bathroom. My grandmother later said she turned the water off when she heard the banging. That was when she saw and smelled the smoke. She ran to my mom's room, grabbed my baby brother, and while still dripping wet, made her way to the back door.

Looking back, I can extract a tiny bit of humor from this, and claim that I cannot determine which I found more traumatic; the fire along with the prospects of losing part of our family, or seeing my grandmother in the buff. :)

Miraculously, the cat and dogs found hiding places that provided them with protection and made it out OK too.

To answer your specific question, survival trumps modesty. By the time my grandmother ran out the backdoor, the fire department arrived and a fireman gave her his turnout coat. I am not sure if the two of them ended up going on a date afterwards or not. Hmm....

I hope that helps, and I hope it lightens up the day/night a bit.

1) if tools were handy, diffuse the bomb

2) continue dressing; if tools weren't handy, retrieve tools and diffuse bomb after dressing

3) call the media and complain about the BOMB that just fell in my house

4) secure the area around the bomb from further tampering

5) await the arrival of the media (without a broadcast, there's no evidence)

6) call the appropriate authorities and report the BOMB that just fell in my house

7) call everyone else I know and tell them to watch me on the news -- LOL

8) go buy the stuff to fix my house, because Uncle Sam isn't going to pay for it and my insurance won't cover it

9) perform the repairs myself, because I want the job done right the first time

10) go back to my ordinary routine, because I'm an American and not some gutless pansy that worries about terrorism or silly crap like that
