2. How is the verb used in the sentence?

the rule is..

two subjects connected with the conjunction "and" use plural verb..

the sentence used a passive plural verb.. past tense..

Well the verb is creating a "passive" sentence, which is pretty much all I know

"al and I" is a plural subject, so the verb is plural ("Were")

The verb is a past tense verb
