I live in an apartment complex and my upstairs neighbors like to have parties long into the night. I wouldn't mind so much, but they talk and laugh really really loud. I'm not some mean "old person" looking to spoil everyone's fun, but some of us have to work in the morning! City ordinances aside, at what hour is it okay to say "enough is enough"? How do I ask them to settle down without causing WWIII??

In a situation like yours I would say 12:00 is as late as a party should go. People should be aware of their neighbors and respect their space. I would talk to them about the parties, explain that you are OK with them having fun but have a life also. Ask them to please stop the parties or at least keep the noise down after 12:00. Good luck I know some people can be jerks and them you will have to get the apt management or the police involve, and WWIII

Have you tried to communicate with your neighbor .. generally that would be the first thing to do.. find a time that works for both of you. If they flat out refuse to do anything then I would contact the apartment office to make a complaint.. have them involved. There is nothing worse then rude neighbors .. Been there, done that.

things should be quieted by 10 pm so people and their children can sleep. I would talk to the manager-- and get a floor fan for good sleep noise. There are also tapes of ocean waves, etc. to help cut out the neighbor's noise.
