Unfortunately, nothing! You can talk a person until they are blue in the face, but all they will do is get p-ssed off. I'm talking from experience, when I tried to get an ex to quit smoking after coming down with respiratory probs.
Sometimes bad health, including an oxygen tank, is not enough to get them to stop.

Sorry!

Tell him ur worrying about other family member's health, rather than his health. The passive smoking is more dangerous than direct smoking. Tell him he have no rights to kill the family members he created himself. When he started his family, he is commited to offer all of u family members the proper environment to maintain a healthy life.

My father is a heavy smoker too, and I have given up trying to get him to stop smoking.
He has said to my family that he will give up smoking on so many occasions but never sees it through. He's really stubborn and aggresive, so it's hard for us to encourage him to do something he doesn't want to do.
On one occasion, he did put off smoking for a few months after a good drinking friend of his suggested and persuaded him to stop smoking.

If your father is like mine, and just doesn't listen to you when you tell him to quit, I suggest trying to get his close friend/buddy to persuade him, because he might listen to them more.

theres nothing you can do to change or stop someone from smoking or from any addiction unless they seriously want to change for themselves. some people wait til its too late before stopping. in some cases, bad health won't hold them back.

do not push him - sometimes many ppl who are smokers tend to think that everyone is pushing them to stop and now they will smoke to spite them. rather give him the adverse effects in a subtle way - try to tell them in such a way that they start talking and in a very subtle way make them think as if they are telling you everything and the reasons they should stop. then ask a question like - what would have to happen to make you stop smoking? this question is guaranteed to make them think about it. thay have to decide to stop by themselves - try to manoeuvre the converstation to make them think they decided to change. also ask q's like - do you think you have enough confidence to stop - usually they say they do, but they don't want to. lead the conversation to make them aware that they can and that they want to change - but as i said - be subtile - they have to make the choice - you can only lead them to think they decided to do it and wasnt pressured.

Dont steal his cigarattes. Instead, talk to him and tell him why your afraid, and what cigarettes can do to someone. After I continiously expressed my fears, my dad who smokes has seemed to really cut down.
Hope this helps!
