Garlic compounds are excreted from the sweat and oil glands in your skin. Mosquitoes don't like the odor or taste. Thiamine (vitamin B1) has much the same effect. And, daily doses of brewer's yeast will get rid fleas on a dog (personal experience).

Each summer here in the UK when I was gardening I used to be bittem by various insects, but since eating garlic most days, they leave me alone.......
