Before you put in a turbo, start with aspiration first. Install a K&N intake. Then do some research and figure out what the best exhaust size is best for horsepower. Bigger IS NOT better. Your best power ratio isn't at 3 inches. It is probably closer to 2 1/2. Get ahold of a decent cam. See how much you can bore it and do that. Then have it line bored. Find performance pistons and connecting rods, (you will have to do this anyways if you put in a turbo or nitrous.) Performance tires can make a big differance. A spoiler to push the car down onto the road. Track bars to firm up steering. Keep researching and you'll find even more.

You can get into the low 11 second 1/4 miles by simply adding a low-boost turbo kit and nitrous (or noss as you young people call it.....). But be aware the level of boost should be kept low if you going with stock internals- no more than 12-14 psi MAX. A supercharger is also a good idea. Jackson Racing makes a real good one with fantastic results, and no turbo lag.
And a turbo kit isn't heavier than 40lbs.

A turbo kit is a good start. Get a high flow exhaust too, and an intercooler if the kit doesn't come with one.

save your money and buy a newer car and dont waste your money on a turbo unless its free. if you want to make it a little quicker get yourself a free flowing exhaust and a cold air intake

why waste money. Buy a new car. We have way too many Frankenstien cars out there now with people that are unsafe when they drive.

it might require a stronger transmission too so check all the requirements before diving in and ending up with no wheels at all.
