Also, Ive been looking into blackberry. do they have removable sim cards and if so could i just stick my european one inside?

could somone tell me where I can go to get what I need?

Best bet is to buy GSM phone that is unlocked. There are many places that sell them but they are expensive compared to similar but locked phones that the network providers sell. The netwrok providers phones are locked to their service and you cannot use other providers SIM cards whether US or foreign. But sometimes you can get them for free.

For a fee there are shops that unlock the phones so that you can use any provider's SIM cards.

Only Cingular and TMobile uses the GSM technology in the USA. TMobile will give you the unlock code if you request for it after 90 days of starting a plan with them. Cingular is not that helpful.

Do not buy from eBay. There are lot of defective phones being sold there. Buy form a reputable store that will standay its warranty just in case

just came back from Italy and i used my moto v3i be sure you have a cell that's GSM (Sim card) be aware that if you buy a cell in the states make sure its Sim unlocked as far as i know all American service providers lock their phones so no other Sim card will work and inserting a foreign Sim card will not work , my experience is to buy from such as EBay or other reputable companies if your cell is Sim unlocked no problems can put any countries Sim card and pronto service if you need more info email me. Verison is CDMA so don't waste your time going there Blackberry is 100 %ok if Sim unlocked
