The busts I am referring to are mostly the busts of heads from great historical or political figures in Greek and Roman history, seeing as the poor of the empires probably wouldn't have had the money to get a bust of themselves. Also, I am not including the Gods and Goddesses in this question because I have seen busts and statues of them both with and without pupils.

Tools of the time. Chipping something as accurate as pupils out of marble 2000+ years ago and taking the chance of miss-chipping an entire statue because you f'd up the pupils was a gamble that artists didn't want to make.

Much easier to make when you are making a casting in bronze, etc.

Actually, they did have eyeballs that were painted, & what's more, the whole statue was painted over the white marble you see now. For a long time, people thought the statues always looked this way, but recently, it was discoverd that they were very colorful, but the colors just faded or got washed or shipped away with time.
