Sure...the ability to have a cheap and reliable backup. I like the little Netgear storage boxes, personally... you can put two drives into them and have the box mirror onto the 2nd drive.
Hard drives are the most common failure point in my systems so having backups is a good thing. I'd rather buy 2, 250GB drives at $50 each than 1, 500GB drive at $175.

never heard of slaving. you can have two drives in which one is the master and one is the slave. is this what you mean. having two drives obviously gives you more space to work with and you can put the OS on one hard drive and all your files on the other. but most drives these days are cheap. 500 gb hard drives are cheap now.

This sounds like you are speaking of combining like sized drives for the purposes of making it one big drive.
A RAID 0 configuration benefits in terms of speed as the data being read and written take advantage of the data channels for each drive.
Just keep in mind, if any of the drives crash, you could potentially loose the data on all of the drives.

most of the multi-hard drive config. this days r the RAID config.
u can use the RAID to make a back up of ur data, or u can use a RAID config, to make two hard drive work together for a faster performance

Not sure what you mean by slaving together.
Ideally you should make it 2 separate drives.
One drive for data and another for windows only.
This way, if windows decide to crash one day, all your data saved on data drive would still be ok and available when you install windows again.

Getting bigger? yeah definitely
Slaving? No benefit in IDE system, only question of necessity. It held true before, I think it is still true now.

sure, when u have 2 HDs, the performance will increase when u read/write from the 2 HDs at the same time, if u were reading/writing on the same HD, the performance will suffer.
