I am interested to your opinion of what comes into your mind when you come across the word Philippines.

Before I lived in the Philippines, I had the general stereotype of a nation of huts, where people spoke Spanish. You know,, just an ignorant assumption.
After living in the Pearl of the Orient, I have new images and they are too plentiful to list. (You asked for 'what comes to mind', which I assume to be brief).
A land of friendly, adaptable and peace-loving folk. Literate, intelligent and highly musical. Sadly, the years of being under the Spanish have left a low self esteem and I hope one day the Filipinos will see not only how unique they are, but blessed as well.

It's a land of fusion of East and West. Imagine Orientals having fiestas in a very Hispanic way.
