For the last week my computer has been shutting down randomly and restarting or my monitor has gone black and the system locks up. I installed Asus Probe and it is showing that my Power Fan stops and starts.

Also would this cause my CPU to run near it's heat threshold?

Thanks for your help....I'm just trying to get this system back into good operating condition here.

I ran a system restore back to before the problem started. Also, it may be relevant that it's failing more and more frequently. Thanks again.

I already tried cleaning it with air and vacuuming carefully. No improvement there. Please note, Asus Probe says the POWER fan is the one failing. The CPU fan is running fine however the CPU itself is running near threshold.

I highly recommend running a full memory diagnostic. Personally, it sounds to me as if your CPU is overheating. Make sure that the fan/heatsink is firmly attached, and if it is, then get a better set (copper cores are nice). Since your CPU cooling fan is behaving only intermittently, it does sound as though it might have a problem and needs to be replaced. You might want to check in the BIOS, and turn off any quiet fan features - make sure that the fan is set to always on.

Mate, Switch of you PC , open the case and clean it with a vacuum cleaner either by blowing (recommended) or by sucking but be careful not to hit anything with the pipe. This will greatly improve the hit circulation inside the case which will lower the CPU heat. If you still have the heat prob by yourself a case fan they are very cheap ($2) and can be fixed inside the case so you will not see them. Hope it helps good luck.

If you are keeping your CPU inside an in-closed area like a desk with a door to hide your CPU check to see you have good ventilation also check to see if you have you hard drive set to turn off after 5 min of inactivity.
