Let me give you a bit of GOOD advice. If you don't know the difference between ram and rom, hard drive or other, you have no business FORMATTING anything...because I doubt you'll know how to get your PC up and running again afterward. Formatting your Hard drive wipe everything off, except the bios, so you'll need to have a CD with a compatible operating system ready to install.
Then you'll have to reinstall all your software programs, games, Internet Explorer, your email programs, etc.

Unless you've done something criminal that you MUST erase your hard drive...let me suggest that you move all your TRASH into one folder, and delete it that way.
Then you'll have all your good stuff left in place, and lots of ROM space to begin again.

its not possible to format hard RAM.
if u want clear the data of the ram then just

Follow the following steps:
1) Take off the battery on the mother board
2) Switch on the system without the Battery for 3-4seconds and switch it back off.
when you do this, the data in the RAM is erased.
3) Fix back the battery on the mother-board. and switch your system back on,
4) Now your system should be working fine.

Enjoy :)
