Mari Bim Amude Alkatiri
The Prime Minister

2002- present
born: 26 November 1949

Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri was born on 26 November 1949, in Dili, Timor-Leste. He was raised in Dili, Timor-Leste with his 10 brothers and sisters. He spent his adult life committed to highlighting the injustice of Indonesian occupation of his tiny half-island nation and his people's valiant struggle for independence and freedom. Dr. Alkatiri had an unwavering dedication to his country men and women, backed by a solemn belief that justice would be done. He rallied opinion leaders in the international community, including lobbying the United Nations for years before the world took notice. He also used his legal experience and expertise to contribute to the FRETILIN ideology and objectives, and to repeatedly present the case to the UN as he sought to keep the plight of an illegally occupied Timor-Leste alive with the UN. Working alongside his comrades both inside and outside Timor-Leste, Dr. Alkatiri clearly demonstrated his devotion to the freedom of the people of his homeland.
